On October 12th, 2008 I will run my first marathon, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The reason for running this marathon is primarily to raise funds to help the needy in rural parts of India. Most of you are aware of my involvement with Association for India’s Development (AID), a non-profit organization that raises funds to support developmental projects in the villages of India. AID supports efforts in various interconnected spheres such as education, livelihoods, natural resources, health, women's empowerment, and social justice. AID is a national organization and has chapters all over the US.

At Clemson University, I was an active member of the Clemson Chapter of AID. Now that I have moved to Boston, I am again actively involved with AID. One of AID-Boston’s major fundraiser is the marathon program. As part of this program, volunteers pledge to run a marathon and raise at least $100 per mile. I will be running 26.2 miles to successfully complete the Chicago Marathon. Therefore, by the end of October 12th, 2008, I will have raised $2620 to support the underprivileged in India. Some of the projects that AID-Boston is currently supporting include tribal education, nutrition and health-care for slums, and education for children with speech and hearing impairments. The money I raise will fund these projects and hopefully many more.

I have been training for this marathon since April and there are many days when the runs get long, strenuous, and difficult. On those days, the thought that the funds I raise will help someone in another part of the world improve their life, keeps me motivated! I know that only $5 will provide a standard curriculum for a tribal academy for the whole year, only $12 will buy a hearing aid for a child, and only $13 will allow a teenager to attend school and live in a hostel for a whole month. I truly believe that $1 makes a difference.

I hope you will sincerely consider donating towards my fundraising efforts. Remember, even $1 makes a difference! No amount donated is small!
