Hello,
Thanks for checking my profile. As many of you know, I have recently taken up running as a sport. Until few months back, I could never imagine running a mile without half a dozen breaks. But with a lot of encouragement from my friends, colleagues and perseverance I am gearing up to run a half-marathon (13.1 miles) for a cause higher than personal achievement.
I have signed up for the Bay State Half Marathon in Lowell, MA on October 19th 2008 as part of Team AIDAsha. AID (Association for India’s Development) and Asha for Education are two voluntary non-profit organizations committed to promoting education, sustainable, equitable and just development in India, by working with grassroots organizations and movements in India.
Being fortunate enough to be brought up in an environment that was abundant of opportunities, choices and resources, I feel it as my duty to give back something to the community I belong to. So I have started volunteering for the Boston chapter of AID. We raise funds and use them to support and initiate projects that improve life for the most disenfranchised groups in India such as tribal people and those who are poor, unemployed, uneducated or in any way lack the benefits modern civilization can provide. Though this is the job of the government of India, it is so corrupt that it has difficulty performing it. The country's recent unbridled economic boom coupled with government corruption and inefficacy has only served to widen the gap between the rich and the poor.
My goal is to raise at least $1500 for AID and Asha. I hope that you would support me by making a generous donation. Take a look at how much change your contributions can bring:
$25 – Takes care of education and living of one child for one month
$50 – Helps a rural farmer start his own business
$100 – Helps educate hundred rural pregnant women on infant health
$250 – Helps train hundreds of rural men and women in making clothes, using a bank and more
$500 – Can completely take care of a ten year old child until she graduates from high school
This marathon is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to make a difference. Every contribution no matter how large or small is valuable and will make a meaningful difference. From my side I promise not to give up or give in and will finish the race.
