Dear Family and Friends,
Every morning on my way to work, I put this personal summer goal in perspective. Driving at 55 miles/hours (yup, everything on this page is legal and secure), it takes me about 30 minutes to cover the 25 miles or so. I always thought I lived too far from work, but after starting to train for the marathon, I believe one day I can actually run to work!
Yes, running 26.2 miles within 6 hours is one of my goals for this year (after 6 hours a van comes and picks you up, not cool)! However, I need your support in fulfilling the other more important goal -- raise money to promote the cause of educating under-privileged children in India.
I have been involved with this cause for over two years, both as a member of the MIT chapter of ‘ASHA for Education’ in Boston, and as the coordinator of a project in the state of Gujarat in western India where we established a scholarship program for female students barred from an education because of gender discrimination. Please feel free to visit the project website listed below and read the reports of my visits to the rural schools and the different programs we are implementing. Given my active and dedicated involvement with the organization, I can guarantee you that your support will impact deserving students in a tangible immediate way.
It takes a scholarship of around $100 to support a student’s education in India for the entire year. My goal is to raise $100 per mile I run, so that would be -- $2620.
