I am running in the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008. My goal is to raise $2620 - $100 for each mile - to support two charities Association for India's Development and Asha for Education.
As part of the Team AID/Asha boston chapter, I have been training since May. 90+ runners have raised over $250K since the inception of the TAA Program. This year's team is split into two groups each raising money for AID or Asha for Education. I am raising money for Asha for Education.
Asha for Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit voluntary organization. That means your donations are tax deductible. Asha was started in 1991 at the University of California, Berkeley. It currently has 66 chapters worldwide - 45 in the US, 14 in India, 7 in Europe, Singapore and Australia. It is 100% volunteer run with minimal hierarchy, non-religious and non-political. It is rated as a 4 star charity by Charity Navigator. The Asha MIT/Boston chapter was founded in 1995, has 11 active projects, and raises more than $50,000 annually.
Association for India's education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit voluntary organization, was also estabilished in 1991. It has 35 chapters in the US and 40 world-wide. It focuses on developmental projects in India spanning all areas of development in partnership with grass-roots NGOs aiming mainly at the most marginalized part of society. It also has a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator.
