Program details
Our program is geared to help train beginner or experienced runners to train with our team to completed a full (26.2 miles) or half marathon (13.1 miles). In return, you raise funds for AID and Asha, two volunteer non-profit organizations dedicated to the educational and social development of underprivileged children and families in India. Most of our team members are beginner runners and more than 170 of them have completed our program successfully both in completing their marathon/half-marathons and reaching their fundraising targets. So, you are joining a proven program. You can come for a couple of group training runs without committing to anything. Try us out for a few weeks and then decide to register officially.
Here is an outline of the sequence of steps you can take to participate.
Training
TeamAIDAsha marathon program brings to each participant a custom training program with a focus on individual goals. Whether you are a first time marathon runner or a seasoned runner, our coach can provide a training plan that will bring out the athlete in you and help you achieve your fitness and marathon goals. Past runners have found the program to effectively balance the right amount of mileage, long runs and practice races. Through a carefully selected combination of running trails and tarmac paths, the training runs accustom you to the terrain of the marathon destination. In addition to the runs, the training program targets and educates runners on aspects like shoes, hydration, clothing and mental preparation. Aided by the lessons learnt by past runners as well as the vast experience of the coach our training will prepare you to take on the challenge of the marathon with gusto!!
Team
Accomplishing a task like running a marathon or half-marathon requires a sustained team effort. Finding individuals or groups to run with is especially important to individuals preparing for any endurance running event. Runners all over the world acknowledge that their results and enjoyment are enhanced by teaming up with other runners. The TeamAIDAsha training program is committed to providing strong team support and fellowship for all of the runners in the program. Since our teams typically include runners of all levels the team and the expertise of the coach can help you reduce and overcome the strain that comes with sustained training over several months. In addition, mentor program helps you keep motivated and fit all throughout your preparation for the big day. By sharing the training experience together our runners have often formed life-long relationships with each other. Perhaps the biggest benefit of training in a team is the support and counseling that members give each other. Go team!!

Here is an outline of the sequence of steps you can take to participate.
- Attend the free information session in April to learn more about the program. This session is open to everybody. We highly recommend that you attend this session even if you are unsure about your participation.
- Join our meetup page, email lists, Facebook Fan page and Twitter feed to get all the latest updates about the program. You can sign up for one of these but we recommend all, just to make sure you don't miss any announcements. You can find links to join these at our home page.
- Potential runners join our group training runs on Saturday mornings. Anyone is welcome to attend these runs. You can attend the runs for a couple of weeks before deciding to formally 'register' for the program.
- You also need to do short mid-week runs 3 or 4 times a week. You can do this on your own or join your peer runners from near your office or home. Coach will publish a recommended training plan during the season for you to follow.
- After a couple of weeks of group training runs, you can formally 'register' for the season at our web site and pay the registration fees ($125). The registration link will be available at the home page starting in April. By formally registering, you are agreeing to participate in the training program and raise the target amount over the season.
- Registered runners will be added to a private runners group at Strava where our coach and mentors will track your progress in training and offer personal guidance throughout the season. You will also get a personal web page to help you spread the word about your goal and raise funds for the program.
- Continue attending the weekend group training runs. Also, attend the special clinics like shoe clinic, stretching clinic, fundraising clinic etc to learn from coach, mentors and your peers. A lot of information is shared during the weekend group runs and the clinics. Try to make sure that you attend all of them, and follow-up with your peers and mentors if you miss any event.
- Start fundraising after the fundraising clinic. You will need to upload your picture and your own personal message etc before fundraising. Try to reach your fundraising goal *before* your target race.
- You can make changes to your target race (half vs full marathon or the location of the target race etc) during the season. Each race has a deadline for final confirmation. Make sure you read the updates from the program to make changes as needed.
- Prepare for your big race day by following coach's advice and complete the run!
